Last reviewed:

Unveiled at Frankfurt in 2009 and on UK sale from 2010, the 458 replaced the F430 and set Ferrari’s mid‑engined V8 line on a new technical footing. Project code F142, it introduced a Getrag seven‑speed dual‑clutch to the berlinetta line, integrated E‑Diff and F1‑Trac control, and a far more aerodynamically driven body by Pininfarina with aero‑elastic front winglets. The Spider followed in 2011 with a neat aluminium retractable hard‑top and minimal structural compromise. At its heart is the 4,497 cc F136‑family V8, rated at 570 PS (562 bhp) at 9,000 rpm and 540 Nm (398 lb ft) at 6,000 rpm. Factory numbers quoted 0–62 mph in 3.4 seconds and 202 mph for the Italia.

Buyer's guide

Known issues, inspection and provenance

Ferrari’s last naturally aspirated mid‑engined V8 in mainstream production. The 458 Italia (2010–2015) and 458 Spider (2011–2015) use the 4,499 cc F136 family flat‑plane V8 (c. 562 bhp at 9,000 rpm) with a Getrag 7DCL750 dual‑clutch gearbox, aluminium spaceframe and CCM brakes.

Ownership costs

Servicing, running costs and major bills

458 Italia and Spider ownership is manageable if you budget properly. There’s no cambelt service and the cars are fundamentally robust, but annual servicing, tyres and the odd big-ticket item add up. Use a good UK Ferrari specialist, keep it on a battery conditioner, and budget a sensible reserve.

Finding one

Where to look and how to source an example

Start with the franchised Ferrari network. For younger 458s that still qualify for Ferrari Approved, main dealers remain the straightest route, with factory diagnostics, programme checks and the possibility of a warranty. For older cars the centre of gravity shifts to marque specialists and established independents with strong sourcing networks.
